① ability n.能力，能耐
（1）ability to do sth.
e.g. The health center serves all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
医疗中心为所有的病人服务，不管他们有没有能力支付。
（2）have/possess the ability to do sth.
e.g. She has the ability to make people feel relaxed.
她能够让人放松下来。
（3）remarkable/outstanding/exceptional ability

② gift = a natural ability n.天赋
指生来具有的内在的才能和才智，非普通大众能拥有，也不可通过努力获得。

e.g. He has a gift for comedy.
他具有喜剧天赋。
③ competence n. 能力，技能
为正式用语，侧重指令人满意的业务能力与水平，达到胜任某项工作等的要求。
e.g. He displayed great competence for the job.
他显示出能够胜任这份工作的非凡能力。
④ capacity n. 才能，能力；容纳
侧重指人现在的能力，通常不指体力，多指才智，尤指接受与领悟能力，人或物的容纳或吸收能力，其后接for sth. / of sth.
e.g. His capacity for languages is wonderful.
他学语言的能力极好。
e.g. The hall has a capacity of five hundred people.
这个会堂可以容纳五百人。
⑤ capability n.才能，能力
capability来自于capable, 含义与ability相似，它既可以指人，又可以指物。
指本身具有、尚未发挥的潜在能力，可以通过努力学习得到，其后接to do sth. / of doing sth. / for sth.
e.g. He has the capability to complete this job.
他有能力完成这项工作。
e.g. Our country has the capability to defeat any intruder.
我国有能力战胜任何侵略者。
总的联系：
ability, capacity, capability都能够用来表示人的才干和能力。
不过，跟这些词的其它区别一样，这些不同比较模糊，除了一般固定的用法之外，这些词都是可以互换使用的。
⑥ aptitude n.天资，才能
多指天生或后天习得的运用自如的能力，常暗示接受能力强，能迅速掌握一种学术训练或艺术技巧。
e.g. he had a remarkable aptitude for leaning words.
他在学单词方面有惊人天赋。
