在school、hospital、church、office等一类名词前既可加冠词也可不加冠词。加冠词强调的是“场所”，表示具体概念，是“去学校、去医院、去教堂、去办公室”；而不加冠词则强调的是“活动”，表示抽象概念，是“上学、看病、做礼拜、上班”。例如：
He went to the school to borrow some books yesterday. 他昨天去学校借了一些书。
He goes to school at 7 on foot. 他每天七点步行上学。
Miss. Wang went to hospital this morning. 王小姐上午去看病了。
